Prostate cancer is the third most common cause of death from cancer in men of all ages. It is the most common cause of death from cancer in men over age 75. Prostate cancer is rarely found in men younger than 40 years old. Prostate cancer starts in the prostate gland. The prostate is a small, walnut-sized structure that makes up part of a man’s reproductive system. It wraps around the urethra, the tube that carries urine out of the body through the penis.  The American Cancer Society advises digital prostate exam for men age  40, and for men age 50 and over, it recommends the Prostate Specific Antigen blood test.  (PSA) In the case of African American males,  PSA’s are advised as of age 40, because the history of prostate cancer among them is twice that of Caucasian men. The American Urological Association also recommends a first-time test at age 40, with the schedule of follow-up testing to be determined on an individual basis. Some doctors recommend that men at higher risk of prostate cancer such as African-American men or men with a family history of prostate cancer  start screening earlier. A digital rectal exam is done as part of men complete physical examination.  Studies show some people who are at greater risk include ~African-American men than  men of other races~ Men who are older than  60 years old ~ Men who have a father or brother with prostate cancer.~Prostate cancer is most common in North America, Northwestern Europe, Australia, and on Caribbean islands.
