Prosper and Be in Health “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3 John 2) The Saviour in His miracles revealed the power that is continually at work in man’s behalf to sustain and to heal him. Through the agencies of nature, God is working, day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment, to keep us alive, to build up and restore us. When any part of the body sustains injury, a healing process is at once begun; nature’s agencies are set at work to restore soundness. But the power working through these agencies is the power of God. All life-giving power is from Him. When one recovers from disease, it is God who restores him. . . . The words spoken to Israel are true today of those who recover health of body or health of soul. “I am the Lord that healeth thee.” The desire of God for every human being is expressed in the words, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. Pure air, sunlight, abstemiousness, rest, exercise, proper diet, the use of water, trust in divine power–these are the true remedies. The things of nature are God’s blessings, provided to give health to body, mind, and soul. They are given to the well to keep them well and to the sick to make them well. . . . Nature is God’s physician. The pure air, the glad sunshine, the beautiful flowers and trees, the orchards and vineyards, and outdoor exercise amid these surroundings are health giving–the elixir of life. Nothing so tends to restore health and happiness as living amid attractive country surroundings. Life in the open air is good for body and mind. It is God’s medicine for the restoration of health. * * * * * True religion and the laws of health go hand in hand. From My Life Today – Page 140 Ellen G....

Drink Enough Water Each Day

Drink Enough Water Each Day

We need to drink enough water each day. You need water to replace what your body loses through normal everyday functions. You lose water when you go to the bathroom or sweat, and you even lose small amounts of water when you exhale. You need to replace this lost water to prevent dehydration. What is dehydration you asked..? Dehydration means your body does not have as much water and fluids as it should. Dehydration can be mild, moderate, or severe based on how much of the body’s fluid is lost or not replenished. When it is severe, dehydration is a life-threatening emergency. Your body also needs more water when you are— In hot climates. More physically active. Running a fever Having diarrhea or vomiting. To help you stay hydrated during prolonged physical activity or when it is hot outside: Drink fluid while doing the activity. Drink several glasses of water or other fluid after the physical activity is completed. Whenever you are participating in vigorous physical activity, it’s important to drink before you even feel thirsty. Thirst is a signal that your body is on the way to dehydration. Some people may have fluid restrictions due to a health problem, such as kidney disease, or Congestive Heart Failure. If your Doctors / health care provider has told you to restrict your fluid intake, make sure you follow their advice. Disclaimer Read more @...

Air

Air

The Air We Breath He giveth to all life, and breath, and all things. Acts 17:25 Air is the free blessing of heaven, calculated to electrify the whole system. The lungs are constantly throwing off impurities, and they need to be constantly supplied with fresh air. We are more dependent upon the air we breathe than upon the food we eat. Men and women, young and old, who desire health, and who would enjoy active life, should remember that they cannot have these without a good circulation. Whatever their business and inclinations, they should make up their minds to exercise in the open air as much as they can. They should feel it a religious duty to overcome the conditions of health which have kept them confined indoors, deprived of exercise in the open air. Air, the precious boon of heaven, which all may have, will bless you with its invigorating influence if you will not refuse it entrance. Welcome it, cultivate a love for it, and it will prove a precious soother of the nerves. . . . The influence of pure, fresh air is to cause the blood to circulate healthfully through the system. It refreshes the body and tends to render it strong and healthy, while at the same time its influence is decidedly felt upon the mind, imparting a degree of composure and serenity. It excites the appetite and renders the digestion of food more perfect, and induces sound, sweet sleep. The pure, invigorating air of heaven is God’s free gift to men and women, and it is impossible for them to be cheerful, healthful, and happy unless they appreciate these rich bounties and allow them to answer the purpose for which they were designed. *      *     *    *      * The free, pure air of heaven is one of the richest blessings we can enjoy. Conditions Unfavorable to Strength and Vigor

Irregular Habits Conditions Unfavorable to Strength and Vigor Misuse of the body shortens that period of time which God designs shall be used in his service. By allowing ourselves to form wrong habits, by keeping late hours, by gratifying appetite at the expense of health, we lay the foundation for feebleness. By neglecting to take physical exercise, by overworking mind or body, we unbalance the nervous system. Those who thus shorten their lives by disregarding nature’s laws, are guilty of robbery before God.—The Review and Herald, December 1, 1896. – {HL 47.3} Overwork Those who make great exertions to accomplish just so much work in a given time, and continue to labor when their judgment tells them they should rest, are never gainers. They are living on borrowed capital. They are expending the vital force which they will need at a future time. And when the energy they have so recklessly used, is demanded, they fail for want of it. If all the hours of the day are well improved, the work extended into the evening is so much extra, and the overtaxed system will suffer from the burden imposed upon it. I have been shown that those who do this often lose much more than they gain, for their energies are exhausted, and they labor on nervous excitement. They may not realize any immediate injury, but they are surely undermining their constitution.—Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene, 65. – {HL 47.4} Impure Air The effects produced by living in close, ill-ventilated rooms are these: The system becomes weakened, the circulation is depressed, the blood moves sluggishly through the system, because it is not purified and vitalized by the pure, invigorating air of heaven. The mind becomes depressed and gloomy, while the whole system is enervated.—Testimonies for the Church 1:702, 703. – {HL 48.1} A Disturbed Mind Doubt, perplexity, and excessive grief often sap the vital forces and induce nervous diseases of a most debilitating and distressing character.—The Review and Herald, October 16, 1883. – {HL 48.2} Errors in Diet Unhealthful habits of eating are injuring thousands and tens of thousands. Food should be thoroughly cooked, neatly prepared, and appetizing.—Unpublished Testimonies, November 5, 1896. – {HL 48.3} Cold Food I do not approve of eating much cold food, for the reason that the vitality must be drawn from the system to warm the food until it becomes of the same temperature as the stomach, before the work of digestion can be carried on.—Testimonies for the Church 2:603. – {HL 48.4} 195. They eat improperly, and this calls their nervous energies to the stomach, and they have no vitality to expend in other directions.—Testimonies for the Church 2:365. – {HL 49.1}...

General Hygiene

Health Tip: General Hygiene The knowledge that man is to be a temple for God, a habitation for the revealing of His glory, should be the highest incentive to the care and development of our physical powers. Fearfully and wonderfully has the Creator wrought in the human frame, and He bids us make it our study, understand its needs, and act our part in preserving it from harm and defilement. – {MH 271.1} The Circulation of the Blood In order to have good health, we must have good blood; for the blood is the current of life. It repairs waste and nourishes the body. When supplied with the proper food elements and when cleansed and vitalized by contact with pure air, it carries life and vigor to every part of the system. The more perfect the circulation, the better will this work be accomplished. – {MH 271.2} At every pulsation of the heart the blood should make its way quickly and easily to all parts of the body. Its circulation should not be hindered by tight clothing or bands, or by insufficient clothing of the extremities. Whatever hinders the circulation forces the blood back to the vital organs, producing congestion. Headache, cough, palpitation of the heart, or indigestion is often the result. – {MH 271.3} Ministry of Healing by Ellen G....

Health Tips-Conditions Conducive to Health and Vigor

Conditions Conducive to Health and Vigor The Bible The Bible is a leaf from the tree of life, and by eating it, by receiving it into our minds, we shall grow strong to do the will of God.—The Review and Herald, May 4, 1897. – {HL 45.5} Exercise Neither are they willing to wait the slow process of nature to build up the overtaxed energies of the system.—How to Live, 60. – {HL 46.1} Useful employment would bring into exercise the enfeebled muscles, enliven the stagnant blood, and the entire system would be invigorated to overcome bad conditions.—The Health Reformer, January 1, 1871. – {HL 46.2} If physical exercise were combined with mental exertion, the blood would be quickened in its circulation, the action of the heart would be more perfect, impure matter would be thrown off, and new life and vigor would be experienced in every part of the body.—Testimonies for the Church 3:490. – {HL 46.3} If invalids would recover health, they should not discontinue physical exercise…. There will be increased vitality, which is so necessary to health.—Testimonies for the Church 2:529. – {HL 46.4} Pure Air They are deprived in a great measure of air, which will invigorate them and give them energy and vitality.—Testimonies for the Church 2:533. – {HL 46.5} Fresh air is the free blessing of Heaven, calculated to electrify the whole system.—Testimonies for the Church 1:701. – {HL 46.6} Sleep Nature will restore their vigor and strength in their sleeping hours, if her laws are not violated.—A Solemn Appeal, 62. – {HL 46.7} Bathing Bathing helps the bowels, stomach, and liver, giving energy and new life to each.—Testimonies for the Church 3:70. – {HL 46.8} Influence of the Mind The latter class do not exercise the mind; their muscles are exercised while their brains are robbed of intellectual strength; just as the minds of thinking men are worked while their bodies are robbed of strength and vigor by their neglect to exercise the muscles. Those who are content to devote their lives to physical labor, and leave others to do the thinking for them, while they simply carry out what other brains have planned, will have strength of muscle, but feeble intellects. This class fall more readily if attacked by disease, because the system is not vitalized by the electrical force of the brain to resist disease.—Testimonies for the Church 3:157. – {HL 47.1} Bring to your aid the power of the will, which will resist cold, and will give energy to the nervous system.—Testimonies for the Church 2:533. – {HL 47.2} Excerpt from Healthful Living by Ellen G.
